Pastor, Why? #23: Why not "Gay Rights"?

What do we have against being “gay”, or the “gay rights” movement? Are we just homophobic traditionalists stuck in the past? Actually there are many rational, medical, social and Biblical reasons why we must reject and warn against the homosexual agenda and lifestyle.

The gay lifestyle is unhealthy

Though Homosexuals make up only 2 to 3% of the U. S. population, they account for over half of all Hepatitis B, "gay bowel syndrome", tuberculosis and cytomegalovirus cases. (1)

  • Homosexuals account for 17% of all hospital admissions. (2)
  • 78% of homosexuals are carriers of sexually transmitted diseases. (3)
  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) forbids blood banks from accepting donations from anyone who admits to ever having had a homosexual relationship.

The gay lifestyle is unsafe

  • Homosexuals are 100 times more likely to be murdered, 25 times more likely to commit suicide, and 19 times more likely to die in a traffic accident. (4)
  • The average life expectancy of homosexuals is 42 years old, com-pared to 77 for heterosexual adults. (5)

The gay lifestyle is unfulfilling and unsatisfying

  • 73% of psychiatrists say homosexuals are less happy than the average person and most agree that their unhappiness is not due to social stigmatization. (6)
  • Homosexuals are 7 times more likely to take illegal drugs than the general population, and 20% are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol compared to 5% of the general population. (7)
  • One in three report binge drinking at least once a week. (7)
  • 50% of suicides can be attributed to homosexuals. (8)
  • 43% of homosexuals admit to 500 or more partners in a lifetime. (8)
  • “Homosexuality by definition is not healthy and wholesome. The homosexual person, at best, will be unhappier and more unfulfilled than the sexually normal person." - Dr. Michael Capron (9)

The gay lifestyle is unnatural - Consult any biology textbook. It violates “the laws of nature and nature’s God.”

The gay agenda and lifestyle are unfriendly to children

  • “Youngsters raised by homosexuals don’t do as well academically. They're about 35% more likely to fail a grade. The gold standard is to have married, heterosexual parents. Every study pretty well finds that.” - Dr. Douglas Allen (10)
  • A popular NAMBLA slogan is, "Sex before eight, before it’s too late.”
  • Homosexuals commit 33% of all reported child molestations in the United States. Assuming homosexuals make up only 3% of the population, this means statistically that 1 in 20 homosexuals is a child molester compared to 1 in 490 heterosexuals. (11)
  • 18% of homosexual parents admit to having violated their own children, compared to 0.6% of heterosexual parents. (12)

The gay lifestyle is undermining society

“That which corrupts every single nation is the glorification and acceptance of homosexuality as ‘Natural’. It destroys Reason and Common Sense (Natural Law) and it throws out morality and God’s design of man.” - Dr. Ed Vitagliano (13)

The gay lifestyle is ungodly and unBiblical according to both the Old and New Testaments. Look up Genesis 2:20-24, Genesis 19, Leviticus 18:22-24, Romans 1:26-32, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 2 Timothy 3:1-4, 2 Peter 2:6-8, Jude 7, and Hebrews 13:4. As with any addiction or sin, one is “gay” by choice, not merely birth, making this a moral issue, and not a civil rights matter. Choices do have consequences. Every culture that has endorsed sodomy has done so to its own detriment. We must stand against all forms of immorality, and compassionately warn of the consequences. Jesus ate with thieves and fornicators, yet he never condoned their sin, but called them out of it. We must never be hateful or disrespect toward any fellow sinner, but, as “a true friend who will not let another drive drunk,” so we must be that true friend who does all he can to discourage others from traveling down the disastrous road of a “gay” lifestyle.

…and avoidable

The gay lifestyle is not unavoidable by some

We are all sinful with individual predispositions toward certain sins. Some have a strong pull toward substance abuse, others toward anger or lust, and some toward homosexuality--yes, we really are “born that way”. However that is never an acceptable excuse to choose to sin. No good judge can excuse a man for murder because he was born with a tendency to lose his temper. Christ offers freedom from any and every sinful bondage.

  • 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ...and such were some of you.
  • 2 Corinthians 2:14   Now thanks be unto God which always causeth us to triumph in Christ....
  • Philippians 4:13   I can do all things through Christ....
  • Romans 6:14   For sin shall not have dominion over you....
